Day Ninety-Three

The Loopy Lady!

Like mother like daughter. Only different. Kind of. Last year, I went under the knife to fix two bulging discs. This year, my mom followed in my footsteps, but unlike my outpatient procedure, her disc fusion landed a three-night hospital stay. Ouch. The four and a half hour surgery was successful. In more ways than one. Her back is finally fixed. And now I've been witness to my mother under the influence. Off so much morphine! She didn't sing as much as I did out of recovery, in fact, not at all, but she did tell us about her napkins with baseballs on them. Suddenly, she asked everyone to be quiet. Then said, "I can't tell if this is reality or dream, but there's been some napkins with baseballs on them." And that was it. For the rest of the time, only her silly faces were testament to the drugs in her system; she was pretty quiet. It was probably the dry mouth symptom that kept her from gracing us with a song. Maybe tomorrow? :)

She's been a real trooper for the past year, suffering significantly from the pain that's impeded on her daily comfort. I'm excited to see her thrive once again as the active, pain free athlete that she's always been. This woman is one of the toughest I've ever met, and I'm so blessed to have such a strong leader in my life. You did perfect today, Momma! I'm so proud of you! Can't wait to see you back to normal!
