Day 3,000

The Grateful Heart

It’s fun when two exciting moments in life coincide. Yesterday was my 3,000th consecutive day of this blog - one blog post per day of our marriage - as well as our first Thanksgiving as a family of 6! And as the two collided, I was reminded of something I heard a while ago and it’s not exactly verbatim, but goes something like this,

“What if you had today only the things you thanked the Lord for yesterday?”

It choked me up the first time I considered it because often in the rush of life, being thankful is somewhat elusive. It’s so easy to fret over the moment to come and miss the moment that is now. It’s so easy to dream of the things I don’t have and overlook the abundance of what I DO have. It’s so easy to be discontent. It’s so easy to hold grudges. So easy. And yet, when I step back even for a split second and put the cross in front of the source of my unthankfulness, I am humbled. As soon as I consider the life and death I deserved in which God graciously saved me from through Jesus’ perfect life and shed blood, gratitude rushes forth in an unending supply. I haven’t any reason to be ungrateful.  Not one. I’ve been lavished richly by Creator God in the restoring of my soul to Himself!! That is enough for me. Everything else is an abundant overflow of God’s continued grace and favor and EVERYTHING to be thankful for.

And so, I pray. And I thank the Lord daily for the incredible gifts He’s given me, with much consideration that without Him, I would have none of it. Truly.

Thank you Jesus.
This life is so much better than I deserve.
And I have 3,000 blog posts of proof ;)

Thank you for my salvation.
For Adam’s salvation.
For a husband who loves you with abandon.
For four children who make me so happy.
For a family who loves well.
For a peaceful home.
For people to share life with who love you too.
For people to share life with who don’t know You yet.
For freedom to worship.
For my family.
For Adam’s family.
For health.
For work.
For food.

The list will never end.
Every moment is one to be lived in gratitude and I pray that my life is marked by just that.
Thank You.
And Happy Thanksgiving 2019!
