The Prepping of Two Houses Before a Hurricane
Went to bed with Hurricane Dorian at a category 2. Woke up - a pretty normal morning of packing and cleaning and storm prepping the little house was on the agenda. Kids played. We worked.

And then Mama checked the forecast.
“Ok, I’m right in the middle of picking up this house for a Category 2 hurricane, to leave for our Big House, where a Category FOUR hurricane is now expected to hit us almost dead on. This while Adam is in Washington DC. Ok. Yes. Four kids. Yep. Ok. Alone. Ok, just keep going going going. You ain’t got no time to think.”
So, Adam finished up cleaning up the outside of the Miami house before leaving for work at 1:30. I packed the rest of the house and left to the stadium at 6 to say bye.

We said bye - reluctantly - and with four kids, made the drive North.
(Unfortunately, unlike two years ago when the Marlins flew families on the expanded team plane, that option wasn’t available this year as the airplane currently available is the smaller of the two planes they take, due to a smaller roster. Once September rolls around, the roster is expanded, which necessitates them contracting a larger airplane.)

And so, we got onto the Turnpike and drove. I figured filling up gas on a toll road would give me less headache than trying to fill it up anywhere else. Turns out I was wrong.
Cars and police and gas cans on top of gas cans consumed the station. I was dumbfounded.

But I think I was more shocked at how completely bare the shelves were at a Whole Foods down just a little sourh of Fort Lauderdale. Four days out from the storm’s impact and far away from the landfall region, and still, it looked like this. I managed to get no water, one loaf of bread, and only crunchy peanut butter. Snooze you lose I guess. Thankfully though, I have some neighbors looking out for us and we’ve got more than necessary today, thanks to them!
More storm prep photos to come ove the next few days. Please stay safe, Florida friends. We’re hunkering down and preparing well. Grandma, I’ll call you tomorrow, I promise. It’s just been so busy trying to get out, get in, get ready and keep kids fed all at once...alone. And for peace of mind, Morgan is staying with us as well as another family of 5. So we won’t be alone and there will be one man in the house to do the dirty work if necessary!
Miss you Daddy.
Oh yeah, and there’s an alligator in our lake. Night!
