Day 2,959

The Bunch-a Firsts

A whole day of firsts started off with this glorious picture. The first time my floor has been mopped under the table in uhm, I don’t know how long. Don’t judge me. Look, there weren’t any ants, ok? Just a few mounds of dried cement oatmeal, maybe some spaghetti splatters, and for sure caked on yogurt with a couple smashed Fruity Pebbles sprinkled on top. Possibly spilled teriyaki sauce and maybe some mustard droppings too. Who knows. Maybe even some rock solid half-noodles covered in blackened avocado for good measure too. A five course meal under my table, totally vanished in 30 minutes! If only we were talking about my kids EATING it and not LEAVING it! Whew! A mom can dream, am I right?! In any case, my man moved it all out of the way, vacuumed all around, scrubbed - and I mean scrubbed - the floor, and this all after first meticulously polishing both my table and chairs clean WITH A RAZOR. A HUNDRED POINTS FOR GRYFFINDOR! I love you Adam. I hope you watched AND LEARNED, Bubba. That’s a servant hearted daddy right there.

Next, we moved on to a less disgusting, slightly more exciting and adorable kind of firsts, seen here by Molly standing up totally by herself for about two seconds. Boom. She’s a teenager now, Pete sake. Please time, please. C’mon. Will ya? Let me catch my breath for a second, goodness. Howwwww is this already happening?

Still smiling though. She’s great. I just can’t believe she’s so big.

Problem is: she’s even bigger and my heart is so happy and so sad at the same exact time! I just can’t. Are you kidding?! My big girl is riding a two wheeler, (almost) officially.

You know that feeling you (probably) had as a four year old, learning how to ride your bike for the first time? Like, you’re totally terrified but simultaneously filled with unmatched elation the first time your daddy lets go and you don’t actually die...or even get hurt? That was Amelia for sure yesterday. But that’s sorta me too. I can’t wait for her to grow up and become the woman the Lord has designed her to be, but I kinda also want to just keep the training wheels on and let her stay safe (and little) with me forever. Kinda. (Psssst: the bike rides better and to more places and with greater joy with the training wheels off, Mama.)

Aaaaand, then there’s this one. The girl who couldn’t figure the pedals out on that trike of hers for nearly an entire year - ok, part of it wasn’t totally her fault seeing as she couldn’t barely touch the pedals a few months ago, I’ll give her that - all the sudden knows exactly what to do after seeing Sissy do it with no training wheels! Kids are seriously so great. Gah. I love you Katesy! Just stay Little a little longer though, please?!

And maybe not a first, but the first time I ever saw them doing this. It counts. And I love this. And them. And goodness gracious, I have so much to be thankful for. The Lord is kind.
The end.
