The Twenty-Second Start of 2016
We LOVE Chicago.
We love their food and their coffee and their flowers and their people.
And we love Meli Cafe - our new favorite breakfast spot in Chicago. Well, our only breakfast spot in Chicago, but we're not about to change it up! So delicious...and organic - at least some of it!
Adam pitched yesterday, but before he had to leave to the field and after we were finished with our breakfast (at 1:30 PM of course), we took an Uber to this Chicago icon. The Bean!
This city just does it for us! And we don't even like cities!
See, even Mimi loves it here.
Birds everywhere you go!
Wrigley.
The romance.
Ah, baseball at it's finest.
Never in a million years did I ever once imagine myself experiencing Wrigley like this. And even though Adam had one of the worst games to date, we both still managed to find a sense of baseball-peace here. It's such a historic and iconic piece of this city - and this sport - and to enjoy it from this vantage point was nothing short of mesmerizing.
He pitched, well, he pitched really badly in the first inning. 36 pitches and two runs later and he finally got himself out of the inning. Honestly, it actually could've been so much worse. I was worried for a while there that he'd leave the game after 2/3 innings of 5-run baseball. But he managed to get himself out of so many jams. And though he was out of the game at the end of the fourth inning (he had something like 97 pitches by then), he battled and battled and battled. With some of his worst "stuff." Finally in the fourth inning, he became completely aware of some mechanical issues that were causing his ball to move left and right without control and started to look like himself out there. But it was too late and the damage was already done.
Nothing about yesterday's game went the Fish's way either. We were shoutout by the Cubbies in a game where the starting pitcher allowed seven hits and threw all nine innings. We never scored. And so, we dropped the game and went home with the loss. Though it was quite the frustrating night, Adam did learn a lot and said that this game will help him move forward in his career - he now knows how to more efficiently detect and correct the mechanical issues that were ailing him yesterday. So there: silver lining. But dang, Babe, if you would've just gotten this hit through the infield, maybe you wouldn't be walking away with the L. Speaking of walking...Adam also walked SIX guys. Yeah. Six. So, basically, yesterday sucked. But at least Chicago doesn't!
Mimi says, "Oh Daaaaad, pleeeeeeease figure it out!"
And "PLEEEEEEEASE GIVE ME MORE DEEP DISH!"
Look who came to watch the game with us!
Cousins Zoe and Henry!
Amelia had the best time in the stands with her buddies - the best distraction to a crummy game.
Thanks for making the drive to see us, Uncle Jason and Aunt Kelly!!
We had so much fun and can't wait to do it again...sometime!!
Something about Chicago makes your face smile even when you want to throw punches with your fists. Uh. Yesterday was rough. But we're still happy to be here!!
His line:
4IP, 5H, 2R, 2ER, 6BB, 4K and the L.
He's now 7-6 with a 3.41 ERA.
He starts Sunday against the Rockies in Denver.
