Day Nine Hundred and Fourteen

The Marlins in Lakeland

Adam played the Detroit Tigers at the Tigers Spring Training stadium in Lakeland, Florida yesterday. It's about a two and a half hour drive from Jupiter and maybe the most frustrating set of roads to travel on in the country. Haha! But we (Jordan and I) made the journey safely and were awarded with the nosebleed section for our efforts. ;) Actually, I quite enjoyed the view! Our stadium is much different, so seeing the game from up there was a nice change! Well, except for the fact that it was easily 55 degrees in the shade…and we were in shorts. Brrrrr! Goosebump city! ;)

There's a new rule in baseball. Well, there's a few. But I don't have time, energy, or the knowledge to describe all of them, so here's the gist of one of the biggest changes: instant replay. Saaaaaay what?! Yep. Instant replay is now apart of Major League Baseball. There's only certain situations where it can be used, and yesterday, one of those instances presented itself. So, all the umpires gathered together…the head umpire reviewed the play and then made his final call. SAFE! Just like he called it originally. I think those guys are smarter than the average fan gives them credit for. And sometimes probably me too!

Adam ran in from the 'pen in the seventh inning. He threw one inning again, striking out two, giving up two hits (one was pathetic, one was solid), hitting a guy, and causing a guy to pop out to third base. At one point, he had the bases loaded. And yes, that scared me half to death. But he got out of it with a punch out…and you know it…I was the only person in the stands who threw her hands up in victory yelling "YES" as the hitter swung through an eyeball-high fastball. Everyone in my vicinity laughed. It was embarrassing. But seriously, I couldn't have reacted any different if I tried!

He threw well yesterday, even though he got himself into a bit of a jam. Adam's velocity is slowly working its way up, and yesterday, he hit 96 a few times…then 97 once :)
Overall,  I'd say it was a solid day for the Conleys.

The most recent update:
Adam landed safely in Panama today (Friday) and attended a gala honoring Mariano Rivera this evening. He has a full day scheduled tomorrow and a game against the Yankees sometime that night. I didn't get to speak with him too much, but he did mention that he shook Mariano Rivera's hand…so that's neat! He's been taking some pictures, so hopefully I'll have them by tomorrow to share!

He still hasn't heard if he's throwing tomorrow or Sunday, but when I find out, I'll post it ASAP! :)
