Day Sixteen Hundred and Forty-Five

The Off-Day that Wasn't

Dad threw on the backfields yesterday in what turned out to be quite the adventure. We met Kennedy for some smiles and company and then it was all business as we watched Dada go to work.

He's thrown well so far this spring, but since his fifth day fell on the Big League camp's off-day, they scheduled him to pitch anyways against our minor league teams to keep him and the rotation on schedule.

Turned out, Amelia didn't mind one bit.

And actually, she quite enjoyed the close up views, the sand in her fingers, and the freedom to move about.

She played her own version of roll the baseball,

she attempted to steal water bottles,

she climbed up and down bleachers,

and decided that walking is her thing now. This girl took off suddenly yesterday  and officially, there's now going back now. I think the gravel sidewalk was hard on her knees, so she chose her feet instead! Mama was cracking up almost as hard as Mimi was! Such a big girl!

After Daddy's four innings - around 60 pitches - of work, he swooped MillieGirl up and smiled so big. He's doing a great job and we're just so proud of him as he fights his tail off for one of two openings in the rotation. Yesterday was another positive outing for Adam - he got to work on some new things (his pick off move), started throwing more off speed pitches, and worked out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth. All necessary steps to being ready for season. He also struck out something like 5 guys and didn't walk anyone (the best stat)!

We're getting down to the wire now. There's so many unknowns that surround these next two weeks - Adam has just three more starts to show the Marlins that he's ready to play for them - but with faith, each other, and the support from our loved ones, we'll thrive regardless where he ends up. But definitely, we're excited about the potential of Miami!

First cuts came today (Tuesday), but if all goes as planned (by me, that is), Adam will be starting Saturday's game against the Tigers at home.

Here's an article (and video) of Adam's scrimmage on the backfields yesterday. Go Dad!
