The Twelfth Daddy Start
Oh my gosh, Mom! You got that for me?!! What a nice and breezy surprise!!
Because we live in miserably humid New Orleans and because my child sweats like her Mama (an unfair amount), I thought it might be a reasonable courtesy to my overheating, stroller-riding baby to buy her a fan of her own. I found a clip-on one on Amazon and ta da! Happy, cool(er) stroller baby!
And since I was in the mood of thoughtfulness (ok, that's always my mood when it comes to her!), not only did I give her flying lessons on my legs yesterday, but I decided to purchase a Baltic Amber teething necklace for Adam''s Mini-Me as well. They're worn around baby and toddler necks to provide comfort during the long days of teething through the release of succinic acid. I'm not sure yet how I feel about it, but we're going to give the necklace a try for a week or two and see if it eases her growing and teething pains at all. If not, well, then we'll be applying Amber scotch to her gums instead. Hahaha! ;)
(And just as a side note: these beads are NOT chewed on by the wearer...and she only wears it in my presence. It is taken off whenever she sleeps and bathes as well.)
Good thing for us: our day of goodness and surprises continued on through the night. Adam made his twelfth start of 2015 and again, pitched very well. He hadn't started in two weeks, so he was on a very limited pitch count, but managed to get through 5 innings on just 61 tosses. Sustaining a line drive comebacker straight to the right shin in the fifth inning, we were both (Amelia and I) a little shook up, but relieved to see that Daddy was fine enough to finish the inning and exit the game in line for the win.
He's now 6-2 with a 2.83 ERA. His line:
5IP, 6H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB(!!), 2K
And of note: every single out recorded was either a K or a groundout (12 of them). Keeping the ball down like it's his job or something! ;)
And if I'm going to be completely vulnerable and honest, I'm a little frustrated. Since we started professional baseball, each year has been highlighted with a theme. Our first year was "discernment," our second year was "boundaries," our third year was "waiting," and this year..."PATIENCE." Because, seriously, I am lacking it completely at this point. Not with Amelia, but with baseball. And that's saying something! Haha! I'm obviously completely humbled and thankful that he was given the four days with Miami, of course. But because it wasn't a permanent job, I'm finding myself questioning so many things that I know are perfectly out of my control. And that gets hard after a while...especially from the perspective I view everything from - as a wife of a player. I have absolutely zero control of how Adam pitches and even less than zero control of the decisions made at the top. I can only wait. And pray. And know that we're here because this is where God is calling us to be right now. In our women's Bible study this year with the team, we're reading through a book called "The Red Sea Rules." Red Sea Rule #1 is: Realize that God means for you to be where you are. And while I realize it, sometimes it's just hard to accept and embrace with the patience I'm clearly lacking. So if you can remember to pray for me - to be at peace and learn patience with wherever God calls us - I would be so grateful.
You know you always and forever have my love and prayers. I miss you so much.
