Day Sixteen Hundred and Seventy-Five

The Second 2016 Start

While the two Conley girls hung at home on the couch...

...the Conley boy hung Mets jaws at Citi Field. Holy smokes Adam, what a game yesterday was!!! Between my screams, panic attacks, cheers, and near-vomits, Adam worked quickly in New York, piecing together one of his best starts of his career. It was thrilling to watch, although I will absolutely admit that it gives me anxiety unlike anything else in my life. You'd think that after over 6 years of watching him throw, I'd have no issues - just pure enjoyment - seeing him work. But that's so not the case. Not even close. I can't tell you how many times I yelled at the tv, fist pumped double time, held my breath, and danced like a freak yesterday. It's any wonder I have the ability to resist these urges in public. Thank the Lord Amelia is still small enough to sit on my lap while he pitches, otherwise I'd likely be all over SportsCenter acting a fool and embarrassing everyone in my life! Ah! Make it stop!

Anyways, back to Adam: he pitched incredibly and was finally able to showcase the talent he's possessed for a while now. Everything seems to be coming together and my hope is that he continues finding his place, confidence, trust, and role on this team.

And because there's a first for everything, I decided to be silly and snap a screenshot of yesterday's Twitter feed, with Adam "trending" at #3. I couldn't stop laughing. I couldn't believe it. Is this real life?! Adam? Like, the guy who thinks breakfast oatmeal is mouth-cement, who's missing spots in the beard he can't grow, and who reads Bible stories to my baby every night before bed? Hahahah! Too funny! But hey, I'll take (most) anything to get Adam's name out there because the more people who know who he is, the more people will recognize his character and his composure, and ultimately, the God he serves. Because my friends, that's why we're here.

And one more BEST thing: Adam led his first team fellowship group on Tuesday in New York!! Four guys showed up. FOUR. Incredible! Praise God! We can't wait to see how the Lord uses him to lead this group, which will hopefully see more growth as the year progresses. We're praying expectantly for an awakening in the clubhouse and for lives won to Jesus. Please please be praying for Adam in his calling to serve his teammates. More than health, success, strikeouts, or whatever else you might pray over him, please be praying for the Lord's favor and the Spirit's words to pour out on Adam and to wreck that clubhouse - in the best possible way.

2016, we can't wait to see where you take us!!

Adam's line:
6IP, 4 H, 0ER, 1BB, 9K and a no decision.

The 9 strikeouts was a career high - which he was obviously pleased about, although he was quite upset with his two plate appearances, where he failed to get his bunts down. He told me, "If I get those bunts down, we probably win the game. Everything changes with one out and a man on second with Dee Gordon hitting. Instead, it was two outs in one scenario and one out in another with a man on first. Totally different approach. Totally different game plan. I didn't do my job at the plate." Or at least, he said something like that (he's asleep next to me, otherwise I'd ask him verbatim ha). A fair assessment, I'd say. In baseball there's always something to get better at, and that's one of the beautiful things about this game we love so much.

One more thing I'm noting because I think it's so Conley and mostly funny only in hindsight: Adam's first outing was shortened to one inning due to rain. His second outing was a day game. Who wants to make a wager on how many of these he'll pitch in this season?!!! Hahaha!

Love you, my friends.
Here's a few articles from yesterday and one from today (which I especially enjoyed - the last one):
