The Fourth Month of Millie
Amelia, Sweetest Little Girl,
You, my Love, are incredible. A long time ago, as you were forming in my womb, I dreamed and prayed about who you'd be. Never did I imagine you would be this wonderful. I had some high expectations, but you, you exceed every single one of them. You're the happiest, most bright-eyed, and alert little munchkin alive, and after all the crazy things you've gone through this month, you've somehow maintained an easy going and completely flexible character. You're tough and adventurous and brave and strong. In just one week's time, you flew from Washington to New Orleans on the day Dad was called up, then from NOLA to Buffalo (because we couldn't fly you across International borders without your passport), then drove from Buffalo to Toronto (where you watched your Daddy make his MLB debut - a perfect inning in just 6 pitches), then drove back to Buffalo and flew to Miami (watched one game there before Dada was sent back down to AAA), and finally flew back to NOLA from Miami. All we needed was an extra stop in Arizona and you would have been in every corner of the US in a week's time. But, you became an international traveler instead...at just 3.5 months! Bravo, Sweet Babe!!!! I can't even begin to count all the compliments I've received, commenting on how perfect you are on the plane and how lucky I am to have such a trooper by my side. Trust me, I do know how lucky I am. I can't believe I get to call you mine - I'm so proud!!
This month, you've made a lot of new milestones.
You learned to grab your feet...and you even started sucking on them! It's like, the cutest thing ever!! You've also learned to blow bubbles with your mouth and you give Mommy zerberts while you nurse sometimes! It feels so funny and makes me laugh! You take a shower at least every other day, and after each one, Mama and you sit down, fill up the bath, and swim! We finally decided that we'd let you feel the thrill of tummy swimming and you really like it! I can't wait until you can take swim lessons and kick kick kick your feet so hard in a big pool!!
A few weeks ago, you decided that mornings are the very best time to have the most lengthy and fun conversations. I love waking up to your smiley face and listening to all the goo goo and ga ga stories from the night before. Probably my favorite thing you do in the morning though, is streeeeeetch. When Mommy releases your arms from your sleep sack, you immediately stick them over your head and push out your feet in the world's cutest stretch ever! Gosh, you're just too adorable! I can't get over how much fun you are!! And though you're a complete slobber monster as of now, we still wouldn't have you any other way.
A couple more things:
You rolled over for the very first time in Toronto. You did it again when we got back to NOLA, but Mama still hasn't gotten it all on film yet!! So, farewell to your couch-time naps...looks like we're going to have to find a new place for you to lay your head during the day. Your crib? Oh yes, I think so!
This month, you went through what seemed like a pretty sucky bout of the growing pains. You were really whiny and thirsty all the time and didn't sleep well at all. It was hard on you. It was hard on me. Thankfully, you're now loving the arms of other people too, so when Mama needed her own arm rest, you let friends help comfort you!! Thanks Babe!
Finally, I'll have you know that this month, you decided that one of your favorite positions to be in is sitting up. You've become quite curious of the world around you and are constantly observing every little detail you see. So many people have made the comment about how incredibly alert you are. Maybe it's something they say about all their baby friends, but Amelia, I really, actually think that you're more alert and bright eyed than a lot of babes your age. You've got the biggest, most beautiful eyes that are non-stop panning back and forth, tracking every movement, and recognizing noises when they're made. You're amazing!!!

If I could give you a piece of advice though:
When you suck on your fingers, make sure you don't extend your fingers far back into your mouth. You will end up choking yourself and Mama will end up laughing at you!!
Amelia, thank you for bringing such joy and peace to our lives. You've brought smiles and laughs and giggles and lessons I could have never experienced if not for you. I can't wait to continue watching you blossom into the woman God made you to be. I pray still, every day, that you grow to know, love, and serve Him as your Savior and Father, Lord and King. If there's anything I'll continue to pray for throughout your whole life, it'll be that.
I love you dearly and indescribably, My Little Girl.
Always and forever,
Mommy
