Day Thirteen Hundred and Thirty-Seven

The Mother's Love

On February 27th, my life changed forever.
Before meeting my beautiful daughter, I thought I understood the fullness of the words, "I love you." I've said those three words countless times, and of course, when I say it, I mean it. Every time I've uttered that phrase to my husband, I've meant it. To my mommy, I've meant it. To my family and friends, I've meant it. But it wasn't until I met Amelia that those three words took on a completely new meaning. She created in me a depth of love that I never would've known without bringing her into this world. It's unexplainable. Radical. Looking at her, my heart swells with a richer type of love. A more complete love. For her. For my husband. For my family and friends. But more than that, for my Perfect Father above. I don't think I'll ever fully grasp the unending and unconditional love of my Savior, but as He's graciously blessed me with a child of my own, I'm able to understand His love for me just a little bit more. And it's overwhelming.

Amelia,
I am so happy and thankful and excited to be your Mommy. You've already added so much to our family and I can't even begin to imagine any of my days without you. You've taught me more about love, grace, mercy, and sacrifice than I've ever known and though sometimes the days are long, I would choose you every single time. And I know Daddy would too. You've strengthened the already impossibly strong bonds of our little family. You've helped us see more clearly, love more fully, and serve more sacrificially. And you've brought smiles to our faces that we didn't know we were missing. I love every second I'm with you. Every snuggle. Every suckle. Every chuckle. I love the way you need me and the calmness that overtakes you when you're wrapped in my arms. You are everything to us and I pray that one day, you'll not only understand the love I have for you, but more importantly, the love Jesus has for you. Thank you for making my first Mother's Day the best one ever. (And thank you to Daddy who made sure he was there to celebrate with us!)
I love you.
